Throughout Red Giant Protocol, listeners follow EVA, an artificial being created to live thousands of simulated human lifetimes as Earth approaches its final days beneath an expanding Red Giant Sun.
Each life teaches her something new about humanity—love, loss, joy, sacrifice, family, memory, and hope.
But there is one lesson no amount of simulation can prepare her for.
The fear of death.
Introducing Mors Machina
Thanatophobia also marks the first appearance of one of the album's central characters:
Mors Machina.
Neither hero nor villain, Mors Machina is the embodiment of death itself—an inevitable force that confronts both humanity and artificial life with the same timeless question:
What gives life meaning if it must eventually end?
Rather than serving as an antagonist, Mors represents the unavoidable reality every conscious being must eventually face.
